Variation and consistency in children’s truncation patterns

چکیده
Children’s truncations of multisyllabic words, i.e. the omission of entire syllables, are investigated. More specifically, the consistency of truncation patterns is analyzed in two studies. First, a systematic quantitative analysis of the truncations of a single Dutch speaking Flemish boy is reported. Secondly, the generalizability of the findings of the case study is assessed: the results are verified using data of 12 additional Dutch speaking children. The analysis of consistency and variation in children’s truncations is brought to bear on current accounts of phonological acquisition.

Asymptotic Behaviors of Nearest Neighbor Kernel Density Estimator in Left-truncated Data
Kernel density estimators are the basic tools for density estimation in non-parametric statistics. The k-nearest neighbor kernel estimators represent a special form of kernel density estimators, in which the bandwidth is varied depending on the location of the sample points. In this paper, we initially introduce the k-nearest neighbor kernel density estimator in the random left-truncatio...

In this paper, we consider First-order fuzzy differential equations with initial value conditions. The convergence, consistency and stability of difference method for approximating the solution of fuzzy differential equations involving generalized H-differentiability, are studied. Then the local truncation error is defined and sufficient conditions for convergence, consistency and stability of ...

Three different approaches (prosodic structure, tro...
متن کاملPhonological Constraints and Word Truncation in Early Language Acquisition
Recent research on children’s word production has recognized that early word truncation is not a random process but an operation with a predictable pattern. A well-known example in child English and child Dutch is a stage of development during which long target words are systematically reduced to disyllabic or heavy monosyllabic forms (Demuth & Fee 1995; Echols & Newport, 1992; Fikkert, 1994; G...
متن کاملCorrelating ASR errors with developmental changes in speech production: a study of 3-10-year-old European Portuguese children's speech
Automatically recognising children’s speech is a very difficult task. This difficulty can be attributed to the high variability in children’s speech, both within and across speakers. The variability is due to developmental changes in children’s anatomy, speech production skills et cetera, and manifests itself, for example, in fundamental and formant frequencies, the frequency of disfluencies, a...
